Dr. Martin Löder, environmental researcher at the University of Bayreuth, has been featured as "Highly cited researcher 2022" by the U.S. company Clarivate. This is shown by the ranking "Highly cited researchers 2022" published by the US company Clarivate. The internationally renowned ranking identifies those researchers whose scientific publications from the period 2011 to 2021 are cited most frequently to date. The Bayreuth scientist is a member of the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER) and the DFG Collaborative Research Center "Microplastics" at the University of Bayreuth. Here he has been teaching and researching at the Chair of Animal Ecology I since 2014.

The frequency with which researchers are cited in scientific journals is internationally regarded as a reliable criterion for the influence of their scientific work. The ranking "Highly cited researchers 2022" shows which researchers at universities, colleges and non-university institutions are among the 6,938 most cited worldwide. Due to his numerous, internationally ac-claimed publications in the field of "Environment and Ecology", the Bayreuth junior scientist Dr. Martin Löder belongs to this top group. This top group includes a total of only 12 people working scientifically in this field in Germany. The U.S. company Clarivate emphasizes that the methodology of the ranking is designed to highlight the international visibility of young talents in particular. It is not uncommon for their scientific work to attract global attention more frequently than publications by older scientists who have been firmly established at universities and research institutions for several decades.

"The ranking published by Clarivate is a great success for Dr. Martin Löder, whom I warmly congratulate personally and also on behalf of our Collaborative Research Center 'Microplastics'. He has shown great commitment and innovative ideas in identifying microplastics in a wide variety of environmental media, thus highlighting the growing prevalence of plastics in the environment. He has been able to publish his results in top-class journals. At the same time, he has successfully promoted interdisciplinary cooperation in ecology and environmental research on our campus and has actively supported many students in their first independent research projects. I am very pleased that Dr. Martin Löder, who is taking over the management of the KeyLab for microplastics analytics, which is currently being set up, has attracted such high international attention," says Prof. Dr. Christian Laforsch, holder of the Chair of Animal Ecology I at the University of Bayreuth and spokesperson of the SFB 1357 "Microplastics" at the University of Bayreuth.
