Professor Ralf Hohlfeld, the holder of the Chair of Communication Studies at the University of Passau has, with his students, analysed more than 1800 Telegram and Facebook posts of conspiracy influencers and prominent AfD members about the COVID-19 pandemic. The studies show that the discourse on Telegram is much more radical. However, the term “coronavirus denier” is largely not applicable.
Low-achieving pupils benefit more in mathematics lessons from learning materials on tablet PCs than high-achieving children. They are obviously helped by individualized learning paths, immediate feedback and the hands-on processing of interactive content. This conclusion was reached in a study conducted by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with sixth-grade students. The team of researchers has developed an eBook for learning fractions, which is available free of charge in English, Spanish and German.
What needs does society have in respect of the regulation of video platforms? Coworking spaces are open-design offices in which teams of companies or freelancers work flexibly, largely self-determined, and often in a relationship of mutual exchange. In the project "Humanization of digital work through cowork spaces (Hierda)", researchers at the University of Bayreuth have investigated various forms of design and use of coworking spaces. The research, led by Prof. Dr. Ricarda Bouncken, was funded over a period of almost four years by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Social Fund (ESF) to the tune of 1.4 million euros.
The clock drawing test has been used for several decades as a simple and effective means of diagnosing disruptions to spatial orientation and dementias. Scientists at the Pattern Recognition Lab at the Department of Computer Science at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) fed AI neural networks with data from 2500 tests to teach them how to assess these results independently. The research findings have been published in the journal Scientific Reports. The same group also plan to launch open source software that could make diagnosing dementia much easier for medical and neuropsychological specialists

To what extent does our cultural background and the legal environment affect how willing we are to disclose our personal data? Does it make a difference if the data is transferred to another country—a common feature of many transactions? An interdisciplinary group of researchers from three of the University’s faculties are currently investigating these and other questions in a project entitled ‘Vektoren der Datenpreisgabe’ (vectors of data disclosure). This project, which is to include an international comparative study, will combine approaches from the academic disciplines of law, cultural studies and information systems to tackle the topic.
